• Maximum age of 17, unless specifically approved. In other words, a great backstory and character concept might make this happen. The restriction not only fits with the Red Dawn concept, but also specifically limits you on the starting occupations you can choose, although I checked and there are 7 still available.
• Equipment: Starting gear will be anything that your character would take into a 1980‘s high school. So Swiss Army knives are still OK, laptops and handguns are not OK. Think like a student, not like a survivalist. Anything that might get you sent to the principal’s office is off limits.
• The same holds true for skills feats. I wouldn’t spend a lot of points on Computer Use, for example, unless your dad owns the local Radio Shack and you spent a lot of time on a TRS-80 and think this is really important for your concept.
• I need a very basic bio, including a short list of family members, both in town and anyone that might be relevant “out there”. (i.e. parents Ward & June Cleaver, younger sister, older brother joined the Navy, etc) Let me be VERY clear on this: You are all in a small town in the middle of nowhere, Utah, and there is no orphanage in town. If you REALLY want to be an orphan, then tell me who you are living with, foster parents, grandparent, aunt and uncle, whomever. Also, if you decide that you lack parents, you get to tell me why. Did your parents die in a horrible accident, or is your dad just a mean drunk? Considering we’re dealing with teenagers, this is the only opportunity to provide anything close to a backstory.
• I'm not going to be dealing with any kind of PEP system, because D20 Modern already has action points in the system, but I will throw additional XP around for blog posts, food runs, etc.
• I'm not looking for uber optimized characters, nor do I need characters with really twisted backstories, so don't spend hours plotting either of them out. A "normal" teenager is pretty OK at this point, I will twist them up for you as we go forward.
UPDATE: Stat generation will be based the 25-point buy system, with a minimum score of 8, a per core book.
