Good fences make good neighbors, and underground brick walls do an even better job - we hope

We found where all the skitzis were coming from and through some tremendous exertion, Gertrude managed to close it off. We mopped up a bunch of the skitzis, and then Gertrude somehow destroyed the ones who had escaped. She didn't look too pleased by this, but Kev's happy that his county hasn't been overrun by stinky demons.

After that, we found out that Kev has dark elven neighbors underground. They aren't very nice, especially to dwarves, but we managed to avoid getting into a fight with them. After that, Kev gave some toys to his guards and we shut it down. Gertrude does need a tower, but the one that's currently "empty" may not be move-in ready, so we'll check that out next time.

Good session!

The echoing clink of a hammer on stone awoke Zantlin in the night. Leaning up on one of his short dwarvish arms, he searched for what could have made that sound. Next to him Granny stirred restlessly in her sleep. He could see Vim standing watch just on the edge of the firelight. Yorn and Kev were sound asleep. There was nothing he could see that could have made that noise.

Granny's Nightmare

Myra stood over Gertrude with her sword held high over her head. Gertrude recognized the sword that Yorn usually carried and felt fear. The sword slashed down quicker then Gertrude could react, severing her head.

Notes for game 12/13

I couldn't get the notes posted before because the blog was busted.

We got back to Fairview, chatted with Kev's minions, and headed out to Hobbittown where we found some stinky monsters in some dude's basement. There is a passage down that leads to danger and adventure...

Crazy, twisty, psionically-confusing passages

We romped through some wierdo rooms in the basement of Mr. Bog's house and found some more of the skitzis, as well as some halflings that were stuck in the walls and being fed upon.

We got outside with our rescued halflings and met up with Randall and his boys, who guard us. Next time out, back in the hole.

Return of the dwarves, pt 2 as told by Zantlin

One night, as we are making camp, during our travel to Sir Kev's new lands.

While setting up my bed roll, the glow from my pack is fairly obvious. I take the orb off behind a tree and delve into its secrets.

Again the sight of 'fallen' dwarves in the stonework of the ancient keep. This time there are several dwarves gathered together. there are four dwarves outfitted for travel. Two of the dwarves are recognisable as the two previously having a conversation.

"You four go with the future of our clan on your shoulders. Go forth and seek him out. Be wary of his travelling companions. Only confront him if he is alone. If he will come willingly so much the better, but he will come."

I break contact.

With the open hostility i've received in the lands of the humans, i doubt they will get very far in there quest. Still they may be dangerous enough to threaten the country side.

Only time will tell...

Return of the dwarves, pt 1 as told by Zantlin

Upon returning to my room, a warm glow from my pack, caught my eye. Guessing it to be from the orb, i made sure the door was locked, and cleared a space on the floor. I retrieved the orb from my pack and steeled my mind to activate it.

Immediately the orb imported to me a vision of the ancient keep of my home. a scene of two fallen dwarves wandering down one of the many corridors in conversation.

"...we must get him back. He is the next in line for the crown."
"He must be turned to see the way, first."
"we can convert him after we get him back. She has killed all in line before him."
"we will call a discussion of the council."

then the dwarves took separate paths. I broke contact to ponder this new revelation.
So that is why they wanted to keep me. Perhaps i could convert them? restore this ancient keep to proper hands..?
I shall wait to see what develops. No need to worry my new companions. What are the odds they could find me anyway.

Kev's first act as a noble - eyes *off* the serving girls

We dealt with loot, got spells and new toys, then went to Fairview--Kev's new dominion. We found out that the main problem is that the County is broke and needs an army. Also, the party and Robert (his adjunct) are not going to get along too well...especially Yorn.

When you start to smell like horses and it's an *improvement*, you've had a bad few weeks

We made it back to Illiostal and met with the king, where we got our reward (a sackful of rubies) and Kev got his special reward...he has been knighted and granted dominion over the village of Fairview and 300 acres of farm. Since Lord Galveston is dead, Kev gets to worry about the whole county.

Kyleth, it looks like you dropped something

We found Kyleth's lair, took control of the orb from her, and finished her off. Gertrude frees a bunch of people from the orb just before she started to use its power for frivolous things. We never do get to see what she looked like at 22--no, 19--heck, Kev's from the country, 16!

We'll find our way out in two weeks.

Kev: he's got magic hands

We stumbled through the dungeon a little more, fought off a few small groups of horrors, and found some chips of gems that apparently are swarf from when the world was created. Kev was scooping it up and suddenly found his hands turning into gems. He freaked out until Yorn had a vision from Ulyiad saying it was ok, but that Kyleth was starting to steal his powers. Yes, it sounds like we better get moving.

It's easier to recruit underground, apparently, but you gotta have low standards

We got back on the trail of Kyleth, maybe. We ended up stumbling around the dungeon, rescued some experiment victims (and fried a few others), disarmed some demon traps, got zapped with lightning, and then found some chapels. The one to Ulyiad was a wonderful boon (after Gertrude used her abilities to destroy the Gate, she couldn't re-memorize), and the next one is to Yousel and will probably suck pretty hard. That's where we're going next.

Two of the gurneys in Kyleth's lab had non-demonic victims...one was a celestial who's been muted; the other was one of the King's men that was looking for some demons that were terrorizing the countryside. Well, looks like he found it.

And now we are six.

I show up very late thanks to work. The party tangled with the dwarves (some of whom followed Kyleth; some of whom follow Yousel), then found Sovelis, who was apparently taken captive by Kyleth at some point. Gertrude is hearing more and more voices, although there was a new one in her head when she summoned a Planetar.

Hey, who's the new guy?

We fumbled around in the dungeon a little bit and got to the end of the queen's chambers where we found her garden - there were a couple ogres, a disguised hag, and an invisible child who was a servant of Arianna, the goddess of dwarves. The new guy, who met us there, was the first dwarf any of us had seen. He mentioned he found some worshipers of Yousel and took us back there; next game it sounds like we'll tangle with them. They may or may not know where Kyleth is.

No game 10/18; Scott and Joel will miss 10/25.

And Gertrude, she just keeps on getting creepier and creepier

We wandered around this dungeon and didn't find too much of importance other than a Bodak (that killed Kev immediately), some invisible child that started bleeding when Yorn slashed him, and apparently there are some royal dwarven quarters. We did not go back to the bodak yet because we do not have a good plan at all.

Gertrude is starting to manifest more and more clerical powers. It's nice to have the healing (and true resurrection), but exactly *who* is granting her these powers?

It's nice to be stuck in a prison cell *with* your arms and equipment for a change

We found ourselves in some really-poorly defended cells, then started rocking our way through some dungeon passages. We killed a bunch of devils on the way, heard some screaming, figure that we need to go downstairs to find the orb *and* close a dimensional portal that was stuck open.

Epilogue

It has to be taken into account that those poor adventurers were not to blame. Overmatched one could say, they have found themselves prisoners of the one they have valiantly pursued. But I digress.

I always leave before the good part...

Just as the party prepared to ditch the skull into the Maw, Yorn took off (with the skull of course). He had some off-night demon adventures, and eventually found the party while they were lying around. Then, I had to leave for work before they dashed off to the most nearby source of doom available.
