We found our captives, wiped out a bunch of stormtroopers and some mutated Felucians, and headed out of Felucian space with a quickness. End of module!
Follow up:
June 6, 2010
I show up late thanks to weekend duty.
We got 330 XP.
We are hacking a computer, and there are stormtroopers, and a locked door.
The guy who had the big gun before also was carrying three explosive charges. We could either can-opener the door to the suspected comms room, or blow it open. Sounds like blowing it open is a good idea because until the comms array is down, they can rat us out. We take positions, and Braktor sets the door up the bomb.
When the smoke clears from the explosion, some of us spot four tall, angular security droids with thin bodies and long spindly arms; the tips of their arms spark occasionally. There are smaller chambers in here as well…and an area for prisoners. There are also two Imperial guards with blaster pistols and unhappy faces.
Lorcan fills the area with the droids with blaster fire. One of the droids comes out to greet us, and misses Morten. The next one zaps Braktor. Another one comes out to Morten. Brenna blows one of them away with a crit. She is shot in return and goes down. Braktor drops one.
Readying to shoot a guy when he walks out the door – Can you shoot as soon as he comes out, or do you need to wait until the dude’s movement is over?
Again with withdraw: p. 153. If first square takes you out of threatened area, you can withdraw. If you get out of threatened area, you can move ½ speed in one move action.
tlon@gamingsociety.org: Withdrawing is a move action that lets you move up to half your movement speed. Your first square of movement no longer provokes an attack of opportunity. However, you can withdraw only if you are moving into a square that is not threatened; otherwise, you must take a normal move action.
This change reflects the mobile and fluid nature of Star Wars combat. Characters should no longer feel as if they must choose between withdrawing and attacking, because now they can do both.
There is a lot of readying, aoo’s, withdrawals, etc. And none of it matters because we can’t hit. H zaps Morten. Morten backs up and misses H. Lorcan shoots the droid standing over him. Bertalan drills H but can’t drop him. E crits Lorcan (just after we mention that Dan was going to take a stun baton in the bunghole for denying Joel his AOO.
C’s ready action to shoot a target activates when Bertalan and hits.
As far as line of sight for shooting, if any corner in your square has LOS to any corner of the target’s square, you can shoot (with cover most likely). H charges Morten. Braktor kills H. Lorcan kills E. Bertalan and C engage in a firefight with cover. D shoots Morten.
Joel also mentions that if a guy is shooting in combat, you can have nothing better than improved cover. He doesn’t really like the combination of aiming and improved cover – some DM’s have house ruled that Aiming reduces the category of cover by one (from Improved to regular, etc.)
Braktor drills D and finishes him. Bertalan misses and backs up; C gives chase, and Soma fires (and misses).
Braktor finishes off A. Bertalan misses C again. C comes out to stun baton Braktor. B whacks Soma with a stun baton. Morten misses B. Braktor hits C and kills him.
B demands our surrender, and we laugh. Morten draws his stun baton and tells B that no, *he* should surrender. Braktor hits him. Dude tells Morten, “I’d rather die first!” and presses the attack. We wipe him out.
We get back to full condition with numerous swift-swift-swifts. We go inside the room with blast doors to do so. The inner door is solid reinforced steel (not glass-steel) and is clearly a prison facility.
Each droid has integrated stun claws. The guards have stun batons, blaster pistols, and personal equipment. There is a computer in this room for Prisoner Control. It is also locked down.
We heal up (need to figure out how much) while cutting open the door – and we find Admiral Varth in here, looking in bad shape. This is a bad jail cell. He’s surprised; the other three humans are afraid.
Brenna tells him we’re here to get Varth; he says he’s happy to take the help. He doesn’t know where the natives are kept.
We say we’re friends…he says that the Empire probably wants to know who the interested third party (the rebels?) are.
Time for food! Or not.
The force sensitives – there is a sudden passing of a life force in the force – someone we met recently. We hear blaster fire and suspect it may be outside.
The door on the upper right is locked; we decide to blow it up because that’s faster. A couple of the prisoners grab weapons; Bertalan runs to the E-web blaster and looks out, but doesn’t see any troopers killing native guides. He runs back as we blow open the doors.
As the door blows up, we see a preponderance of computer and communication gear. At the door, waiting for us, is a Lieutenant who cries out, “This ends here!” He fires; init!
The Lieutenant crits Braktor for 20. Lorcan hits A. The rest of us move up. D calls on the radio, “The intruders have reached the communication facility. We are under attack!”
B and C miss Morten. They stand up, fire, then take cover. Some shooting occurs, then Morten drops the lieutenant with his stun baton. Then he tells B to surrender. Bertalan moves into the room, blaster set to stun.
Brenna shoots someone. Lorcan moves into the room, with much whining, and AOEs B and C.
Someone shouts, “This is an Imperial facility! Stand down!” Morten whacks B with his stun baton. Someone flings a stun grenade at the party. Ouch! Brenna pulls out her hidden stun grenade and wipes out B and C. Lorcan leaps over the consoles to enter the room and starts shooting. Braktor wipes out D and Lorcan wipes out E.
The walls of this room are full of computers and stuff. Any comms operator can send a message to the command center. Bertalan makes a Deception check, and says, “We’ve dealt with the intruders. The situation is under control.”
Lt. Aden has a code cylinder, officer’s uniform, commlink. We also loot two stun grenades and a datapad. The datapad was recently filled: routed, security encryption confirmed. (stuff) – something via star destroyer Isidius. Message follows: Prepare former Adm. Varth for transport to the citadel; someone important ready to transport him. Varth will be interrogated harshly and taken to The Citadel to see Inquisitor Draco – who will personally transport him. 27 to 54 minutes from drugs to transport.
Message went from Perkith Citadel to the Isidius to this facility. This was going to happen in the next day. The Jedi understand what “Inquisitor” means.
We still need to find our locals – Sense Force is the good way to do this, probably. The Felucians were all Force Sensitive.
Three Force Users upstairs. We can use the Code Cylinder on the elevator (it’s a key). Brenna takes Varth and the other prisoners to the grate and waits with them; the rest of us go upstairs. We squeeze…and when the door opens, we find several storm troopers waiting for us. Nice. It’s not like Joel didn’t warn us, though.
Morten is first and realizes that it’s a trap. He moves out of the elevator (unsqueezing the rest of us) and finds a Large H (perhaps a Felucian) with a huge bone blade. It says, “Rrr!”
He goes the other way and finds two more Large Felucians. The command center is alive with activity…multiple imperial facilities monitored from here. Two cargo platforms providing roof access. One guy near a tac holoprojector (SW corner, V) – needs food and sleep – but he is darkly malevolent. He is plainly cruel. The other three monstrosities are more beast than felucian…bone blade on one arm, plated with armor, and hugely rippled. Floor rumbles with their weight.
Soma kills A. Lorcan shoots at H and hits. Braktor kills B.
Brenna, waiting near the outside grate, hears a bunch of troopers and the AT-ST…it sounds like the AT-ST is lining up on the grating. Going out that way is not going to be successful, so she calls on the comms to that effect. C and D shoot Morten and miss him. V looks up and says, “Intruders! (dudes), destroy our enemies!” 4 more stormtroopers come around the corner. E and F shoot Morten. Bertalan flings his stun grenade at K, L, and V – V goes down the track. K and L move up. L misses; H whacks Bertalan and knocks him down. We can feel the pain and suffering of these mutated Felucians. K stands around and waits. Morten tosses a stun grenade, draws his saber, and lights it.
Lorcan force points and crits H, killing it. Braktor kills D. Several of them shoot Morten, and he can’t Negate. Bertalan misses. K runs past Morten, so he chops it. He misses C. Soma tosses a handful of flash at L, E, and F. Lorcan hoses G and J down with fire and kills them. Braktor greases C. E and F drop Morten. L and K close and wipe out Bertalan. Soma misses L. Lorcan shoots K for 10 points.
Braktor deals 17 points to L and moves into the elevator. V says some encouraging words to L, and L seems to perk up (bolster ally). The troopers move in and toss a couple of frags into the elevator. Ouch. 10 points and 18 points. Braktor and Soma go down, and Lorcan’s at 1 HP. Lorcan presses the down button and medpacks himself. Brenna watches the elevator open up with an injured Lorcan and dying Soma and Braktor – and holes in the wall where the shrapnel came out. Brenna medpacks Lorcan for 11 points.
Lorcan heals up Soma. Brenna heals up Braktor. They wait a few rounds to swift themselves up. One of the Felucians comes downstairs, and Braktor unloads on him…then the Felucian returns the favor and drops Lorcan. Soma hits the Up button, and they continue resting up. When the door opens, E and F open fire into the elevator.
Soma wastes F. L moves back to the elevator. K waits for an opening. Soma kills E. Braktor shoots L for a few damage. Breanna shoots K and hits! Soma takes an AOO and hits K (who is making room for L) and kills it. L moves in and misses. Braktor kills it. Brenna leaves the elevator and stalks V, but misses…he misses her. Soma smokes V. The tac readout shows a ship moving in from wherever O’Keefe (our pilot) had docked. Our commlinks crackle to life as the ship calls to us; there’s someone coming.
We loot quickly and get our friends from below.
6 frag grenades, we loot V for his code cylinder (which is the elevator key), 3 medpacks, 8 medpacks from the troopers,
696 XP (we all level).
A few minutes later, O’Keefe shows up with the Banshee and we pile aboard. As we watch it fly in, we ride the elevators up and notice the AT-ST and two dozen storm troopers. Blaster bolts bounce harmlessly off the ship’s hull. As we fly away, the charges explode…we depart from the planet’s surface directly to hyperspace. We meet in her private quarters, and she tells us we’ll rendezvous in the Zandrix system – and we shouldn’t talk about this too much since it’s kind of an Imperial crime. Don’t tie this to our common benefactor.
BTW, Varth is not in this discussion. We can never, ever, ever mention who our benefactor is because we can’t afford to tarnish his name.
Our credits have been deposited, and there will be more work forthcoming. On the Resurgence (a frigate), we can engage in R&R and will meet the captain (Verana). That will be in about 3 days, and we should stay out from underfoot until then.
And that is the end of the first module! Cue the music and closing credits.
