So, we're sitting in the hall of Pelor talking about what's going on, thinking that we are able to catch our breath, and two bone devils show up and try to kill us.
I guess they'll let anybody in here.
Follow up:
So we deal with the bone devils. Pelor / Assys says that normally he can deal with them instantly, but for some reason he had to do some kind of avatar thing, and was distracted. He goes on and on about how he created all this (and it is impressive, even beautiful) and talks about how all the souls that end up here mostly live normal lives. Indeed, it is nice wandering through the "towns" and nobody is reacting to our appearance. It's tempting to stay, which Pelor / Assys has offered that as an option.
The converstion turns to Claris, and how his soul is probably in a place of torment right now. We need to go get him back. While he is somewhat of a coward, he deserves better than to suffer forever. Pelor / Assys says he knows someone who can guide us on our journey to get Claris. It turns out to be Merrik, that monk that started the Winding Way. At least now he isn't sprouting tentacles and killing us. Pelor / Assys shows Merrik the history of our lives, and true to form, he refuses to help us. I had heard that a prequisite to being a head monk was the need to be a tight-assed prig. Merrik turns out to be no exception. He goes on spouting about how great he was because he created the Winding Way. Well, good for him, but that doesn't do anything to defeat evil. For all his brains, he doesn't seem to understand the basic fact that evil beings need to be sent to their afterlife with a good, solid, sword thrust through the heart, not allowed to go in their sleep. Whatever. No loss that he's not coming along.
We trade in our gear with some of the items that they have acquired here, and I find a nice Greatsword that is particularly effective aginst mages. Nothing against our mages, but it'll be nice to have a little more bite against them.
A short time later, Pelor / Assys says he has found another guide, some Blue Guy that likes to argue with trees. Calls himself Nesbitt. I don't want to know if he won or lost the argument with the tree. He seems to be a few wine jugs short of a killer buzz. He explains what we need to do to get to Claris: We are in one circle, and we need to travel to one of the circles over there.
Torch seems to understand some of this crap, but I just can't wait to try out my new sword on something. And rescue Claris.
