A peace treaty, a troubled ranger, and return to Thistletop....
The next day, the sheriff comes to us, and wants us to act as representatives with some goblins from Thistletop to talk about a possible peace settlement (or at least a reduction in hostility). So, we head out on foot (since they hate horses and that might complicate matters). We come across a group of goblins. We approach and talk to them. It appears that Shilelu is holed up at Thistletop, and was killing any goblins that tried to get back in. Gogmurt has had her captured, and she is sick (no doubt the taint of what happened there). He is offering her on to us, in return for an informal peace treaty with the longshanks. He will also be setting up a Druidic shrine in the area, to try to teach the remaining goblin tribes to try to not attack humans, and to stay away from Thistletop. We go back to SandPoint to talk to the mayor about this. She and the sheriff listen The mayor will provide the money to get a horse with (but we can’t tell the stable master what we’re going to do with it). She signs a treaty document, seals it, and gives it to us.
We decide that it is easier for us to give them one of our horses, and then ask the stable owner for a new horse. We gather all of our horses, and head out back to the goblins. We stop a bit short, and bring one of our horses (Camlo’s) with us on foot. We approach the goblins, Camlo butchers his horse in front of them, and the goblins cheer. Gogmurt comes up to us, waves his hands in some kind of pseudo-ritual (it’s nothing, really), and he cuts some stuff off the horse, then lets the rest of the goblins at it.
We give him the treaty (which he accepts upside-down), and he takes us to Shilelu. She is bound hand to foot, her skin is very pale, and has several wounds bound with dirty rags. Solomon checks her out, and she has Con damage, Wisdom damage from spine nettle poison (she’s unconscious). The other wounds she has are from goblin weapons, but they are not healing naturally. It’s not from the spine nettle poison. Her gear is together in a pack on the side, which we try to pick up along with her. Gogmurt objects, saying that it was not part of the treaty, but Cesar says it is part of the contract (lying through his ass), but Gogmurt agrees and we take her equipment as well. We head back to our horses, and Solomon checks her out, and tries to magically heal her, but the magic is ineffective and does not work. We get her back into town and bring her to the chapel. Fr Zanthis looks at her, and he finds that his healing isn’t working any better. There is some kind of curse active on them, that makes it difficult for magic to heal her. Fr. Zanthis thinks it may be linked to the ruins we found at Thistletop.
So we make plans to return to Thistletop after Shilelu wakes up. After 5 days, she is recovered enough that she is conscious. Fr. Zanthis says that she is disturbed of dark images, such as goblins laughing even after she skins them. She mentions that she is still hearing the whispers of Nafishnicor, the wolf of Lamashtu. We wait another 6 days, Fr. Zanthis says he is not making much progress in helping her. She remembers skinning them, even when they approached under truce. She needs to reconnect with Desna to help beat this. As he makes some progress, the whispers resume and she slides back.
We head out for Thistletop the next morning. We reach the forest, which has been burned and scorched, and several scarecrows with goblin skin stretched across them. There is no sign of recent habitation, but there are several areas of ground stained with blood. Across this side of the rope bridge, a rough barrier of stitched goblin skins has been setup. We go into the main building, and are attacked by the dead bodies of goblins that were killed in this room...great. We take a look at these bodies. We look in on the caged goblin babies, there is 1 corpse in the case, and 5 sets of gnawed baby goblin bones.
We make our way down to the temple of Lamashtu. Inside, there are many piles of goblin bodies, most skinned, some tossed into piles. The statue of Lamashtu has been damaged, limbs hacked off and defaced. But, as we walk in, several of the bodies (including one of the yeth hounds) animate and get back up. After we put them down again, it is obvious that the items that can be defaced have been effectively defaced, and this temple should not be self-sustaining.
We go down to the bottom level. Nuallia and one of the yethhounds stand up and attack. We manage to kill her and the hound (again). Most of us are level drained, so we decide to leave, take Nuallia back with us, move all the goblin bodies to the courtyard and burn them there (and not the whole fort for now).
