A real friend is one who walks in, when the rest of the world walks out.

½ pep Mike and Brian for playing the others
Pathfinder society. The past. Asaben Kelf is on a public hearing. “The pursuit of knowledge takes bravery. Truth is a hard master, but will leave you cleansed. I’m sorry for the death of those children, but progress is not without its risks.”
General duties of Pathfinders: No formal bylaws are followed but certain behaviors are expected. Someone going against those behaviors is usually a captain not responding to his members. Other, more despicable acts are infrequent. Rarely violence is called for, but occasionally some Pathfinders are called upon to eliminate others. There are three main responsibilities.
Explore: Travel to distant lands and explore. The Society was first formed in ancient Absalom but members still need to explore, even in the old city.
Report: Members areexpected to keep detailed journals. And at the end of an adventure, they need to send reports to their captain. The best are published among members. But not publicly.
Cooperate: There should be no moral obligations. Chelaxian, Andorians and free willed halflings all mingle in the lodge. Even beyond the lodge members must at least cooperate the best they can. Parlay should take precedent.
We’re at Cluddox shaking his head. A swarm of rotting ravens take awkward flight with soundless open beaks.
Cesar: Draw kusari-gama. “Back inside!” Delay
Carrion Storm 3: Move up. Cesar AOO: 1hit 6dmg
Camlo: Draw bow. Shoot #3 1hit 6dmg (DR) 2miss
Clud: Run inside
Cesar: Undelay. Follow Clud
We slam the door shut!
XP: 4th 60
Cluddox picks up his hammer and then offers an explanation of his vision of his daughter in danger. We head back to the door. Hallway. We move to the middle door. Search and Clud nudge.
A tub is lying askew on top of another tub. ...oh yeah. There is a frantic skittering from a swarm of rats!
Cesar: Swing 1miss
Clud: Nat 1
Swarm: Flow into hallway. 1dmg to Cesar, Clud, Camlo. Check for disease.
Chano: Undelay Smack w/ staff. 1hit 7dmg
Camlo: Undelay Fort vs. nausea. Fail. Move actions only. He moves back to the corner!
Sol: Undelay Draw scimitar, attack. 1hit 3dmg
Cesar: save good 5’ point for haste swing 1hit 6dmg 2hit 7dmg They scatter!
XP: 4th 60
Take 10 on tub. Nothing
Move to end of hall. Check; no traps and Clud push. We see a dancing parlor. Wood warped floor and moldy walls. Chandelier smashed on floor. Grand piano leaning in the corner. Quick search of the room. Nothing. Piano: Looks like it might still play… Fireplace: Nothing interesting.
Cesar taps a few keys and the piano begins playing a discordant Varisian song! As the song plays, Cesar finds himself swept up to dance. Will save fail. He whirls and spins wildly around the room!
Cesar takes 1str damage. We see the strain on his face.
Camlo: 5’ drop bow, draw magic sword piano 1hit 4dmg
Chano: Move to corner and quarterstaf piano. 7dmg. Clang!
Cesar: Dance! 1str dmg.
Clud: 1hit 13dmg
Camlo: 1hit 8dmg
It’s sounding quite discordant
Chano: 1hit 2dmg
Cesar: Capers for 1str dmg
Clud: Power attack! 1hit 20dmg The piano collapses into the floor.
A female voice wails into the air at the song ending early.
Will save. Cesar and Camlo 2wis damage.
Cesar stops dancing.
XP: 4th 160
Back to the last door on floor 1
Search: no traps. Swollen shut. Clud bump. Take 10 for 14 Str. We see a drawing room. Cosy looking but wet and moldy. As Cluddox walks to the window he sees a more-alive looking Revenant reflected in the glass for just a moment. We find nothing else interesting in the search.
Back in the main hallway we debate. Back up to the top floor.
We’re in the small room under the eave. We check it better. Bed, large patch of mold, dresser, and fireplace.
General search: Nothing valuable. Dresser: Empty. Bed: Nothing.
Move north to the door in the middle of the hallway. Search: Nothing. Stuck. Clud bump! A desk and a chair sit in the middle of this empty room. A telescope is tipped over by desk and a trap door in roof is tied shut. Two stained glass windows facing the gulf. North window: woman with dark hair with pale skin in a red and black gown. In both hands she wields a jagged iron staff. The south window is broken on the bottom. It depicts a handsome man with a crown of ivory, sun shining down. The depictions don’t represent the Foxglove family… Solomon once saw a picture of the woman in a book of famous wizards. Doesn’t recall any more. He feels his skin prickle and then he bursts into flame! Some of us notice the stink of burning flesh. He starts to run for the window to jump into the gulf! Will save. Brian uses a PEP and Solomon puts on the brakes just as he gets to the window.
XP: 4th 240
General Search: Nothing of value. The trapdoor was probably operated by a pulley to be used by the telescope. But it’s all long since fallen apart and broken beyond repair.
Move to the end of the hallway. Last door. Nothing. Cluddox nudge!
This chamber is cluttered but undamaged. Shelves of books and strange objects. Fetishes and skull candles. Empty birdcage. Nice desk and leather chair.
Take 20 on the room! An hour later. Fatigue checks. Camlo fail. 5nonlethal. He is fatigued.
A few of us hear the sounds of pages rustling; like someone reading pages rapidly.
Chano: He is flooded with memories of fantastic voyages and wondrous places which soon boil together into bitter disappointment. Chano realizes all the memories are not real. They are realizations of a life he could have lived if He Hadn't Married A SHRILL HARPY OF A WIFE!!!
A will save allows him to shake the memories away after a few mutterings.
The oddities include may fetishes and masks. Most interesting is a painting of a bullfight. “Throwdown in Swine town.” Crowds cheer the bullfighter on as the bull towers over him. Bodies in the streets. Spears sprouting from the bull’s back. An original work by Magnamirian artist Anduzalu
We take it.
Maps and ship charts of strange realms. Difficult to tell where they are in relation to where we are now. Chano notes that he can get up to 400gp to the right buyer for the charts. With the complete 10lb set. We take it.
The books aren't too valuable. Varisian history, mostly. We do find 2 arcane scrolls! Lightning Bolt and Keen Edge. We also notice Pathfinder chronicles excerpts. Not special except they aren’t handed out to non members.
Rogers Craigsby. The caretaker of the estate.
How much does the mirror weigh. 70lbs.
Cesar marches us to the master bedroom. Take 20 for an hour. Fatigue save. Camlo: another 5nonlethal. Nothing of value. We turn the painting around. It is a picture with a plaque. A picture of the living woman of the revenant down stairs. Iesha Foxglove. Cesar: Looking at the portrait becomes dizzy for a moment. Chano: feels a sudden wave of sadness. Camlo: feels a sudden wave of fear. Some hear a shrill woman's voice: “What do you get up to in the damp down below???” Cesar feels a rage at women and manages to push it down before he meets the only woman in the house...
XP: 4th 160
Nothing else of value.
We debate some more. We’re gonna try getting the mirror. 15 minutes and 3 flights of rotting stairs with a 70lb mirror later and we’re in the basement.
We search the kitchen while we’re down here. Cupboard, stove, and counter.
Cupboard: Near the oven we find a very fine silver set worth 1,000gp! 8lbs.
We also find a small clay urn behind a loose brick in the chimney. Inside are 3 small violet garnets worth 100gp each.
We position the mirror behind her. Cluddox and Camlo line up at the end of the hallway. Cesar takes up position behind her and we enact the plan.
Cesar: Stab 1miss Poof! Invisible
Camlo: Ready to shoot if she passes the mirror
Sol: “Did it work?” Delay
Her: Turns to end her aggressor and she sees herself and begins sobbing. She steps to the mirror.
Cesar take 20 on the lock! Click!
Cesar opens the door! Cluddox: “You check for traps?”
Once this room was an arcane workshop. Everything is smashed and rusted. Soggy books on a workbench. Three iron birdcages each holding a dead rat as well. Another level with stain glass windows facing the gulf. The northern window contains a gaunt man drinking a foul green brew. The south window showing the same man in advanced decay his body turning to mist to flow into a 7 sided box. Another door leading out.
Two windows, the bench, and cages.
Chano realizes that these windows are the final piece of the story. Voral Foxglove is taking a potion that changed his dead body into a lich!!!
Cluddox feels an urge to read the books. On touching them, He freezes as a flood of information pours into his mind of Voral’s transformation story. From research to construction to completion. Clud sees a vision of Voral taking the potion and doubling over as his body rots away. Everything in his world is stained glass for a moment. Clud is filled with shame that a family member would do this as well as rage that he must be destroyed. Cluddox doubles over in an agony of anger. Flooded with terror at the success of Voral, he takes a few steps to run up out the house, ready to destroy anyone in his way! Kev uses 2 PEPs to keep Cluddox from a rampage. Cluddox slowly recovers.
Cesar notes that the stained glass may have been grinning for a second while Cluddox is struggling. But a second glance notes it's back to normal.
Chano inspects the stained glass and notes the pictures explain a way to create the box which is Voral’s phylactery.
Cesar checks the door while Chano checks the books. The books almost fall apart but they explain all manner of necromancy and undead. It is obvious by the notes and highlights that the owner was interested in turning mortal to lich. Door looks OK. It catches our eye that the cages are in new, and good shape. We look inside. Each contains a dead rat. They are clearly diseased.
A symbol of a pig with a mouth full of lockpicks is on the cages.
Pug’s Contraptions. Magnimar.
Door looks OK. Cluddox boots the door hard! A short hallway and another door.
Check. Same. Cluddox kick!
The floor slopes down and around the corner. Cesar checks for traps on the way down. Nothing goes off. We continue down and around.
Piles of stone dirt and broken pics. An ancient spiral stair leads deep down into the earth. A cold wind, stinking of rot, blows up from the dark hole.
We go back to the mirror and release Iesha again. She heads straight to the spiral stairs.
When Chano steps into the dig, he gets a vision of Aldern, sweaty and digging. Every swing he repeats, “For her.” As Aldern breaks through, ghouls swarm up and grab at him to pull him down into the dark! Will save? Good Chano shakes it off. We wonder who “her” is.
XP 4th 144
We go down. Cluddox first.
Down and around following the wailing. About 60’ into a rough hewn cavern. Crash of waves and stink of rot getting stronger the whole way. Rough 20’ diameter cave. Scrapes and blood on the floor. One passage to the north. We still follow Iesha. North west for about 50’ before opening into a chasm with a creaking rope bridge over darkness. The crash of waves below. She’s 10’ out when there is a creak and the whole thing gives way! We hear her wail all the way down.
We stare in confusion and indecision.
We let Cesar use some of our rope and he eventually gets us some rope handholds. We taker our time so don’t need checks.
We continue northward to another cavern with a mostly eaten body and more stairs down.
Body: Clothing appears to be farmer clothing. Looks newish.
Stairs down. Checking for traps on the way down. Cesar first. Cluddox next.
Cesar notes a rather crude blade trap about 30’ down the stairs. Tripwire and the blade is coated in green goo. Cesar tries to disable. He gets it.
We continue. Finally hitting the bottom.
A moisture filled cave with ropes of mold and fungus. We hear a rhythmic sound of something akin to breathing. Three tunnels lead away. One seems newer.
Camlo notes some traffic that has disturbed the fungus. Mostly through the northern and southern passages. The last three months, perhaps.
We head north. Around a corner we see particularly thick mold. Several picks, one well made. As Cesar steps forward onto the mold a stinking yellow cloud bursts up. Fort save!
Cesar feels it fill his lungs. 3con dmg. It’s getting worse! Cluddox coughs it up, and pulls Cesar back with him. Camlo notes it’s Yellow Mold. Poisonous. Once in the lungs they try and keep growing IN THE ORDER OF ROUNDS NOT MINUTES!
Cesar Fail 1con dmg Solomon runs to help. Round 3. He makes his save and coughs up the nastiest yellow loogie any of us has ever seen!!!
As we keep causing noise, something comes out of the darkness. Ghouls.
Camlo: Cover and concealment. Ready for it to move closer.
G1: moves to melee.
Solomon: Move and Scimitar 1hit 2dmg
Cesar: Sihedron rune. False life. Draw Katana. Move to flank with Clud. Stab. 1hit 14dmg

Cesar isn’t looking so good… but he leads us up the middle path. We get a ways up before G4 gets a surprise round behind us.
Cesar: Drop sword. Quickdraw bow. Shoot. 1miss
G4: up to camlo 1hit 3dmg Fort? Good

Cesar: Move up and swing. 1hit 9dmg Dead!
Cluddox is angry at the kill-steal.
Back to marching order.
Brian reminds us of our hourly fatigue check. ½ pep Brian. Thanks.
Cluddox fail. Camlo Fail. Fatigue.
We come to a fork in the cave.
To the north is a big cathedral like opening. Frothing seawater at the bottom of a ledge spiraling down.
To the west is some bloody smears all over the floor and walls. Rubble strewn about.
We head west. The floor is sloping down to the north. Out of the shadowy corners come ghouls.
Cesar: 5’ attack 1crit 22dmg
G7: to cesar 1hit 7dmg Save? Fail. He’s paralyze.
Camlo: shoot G7 1miss 2miss

Camlo: at G6 1hit 5dmg
Sol: 5’ back
Clud: PA 1hit 12dmg Dead!
Cluddox has many disease checks to… uh, check.
Solomon checks on Cesar. Wand time. He gives one to Camlo too. Cluddox gets a few hits.
We give the “pantry” a quick search. Bodies everywhere. The stink is almost physical. We find a partly smashed in skull from which a strange shaped chunk of stone juts out. Looks like a wing that was broken off of an angel statue. Looks familiar. We can’t identify the body…
Cesar moves up to look out into the bowl. Water is pouring in through fissures in the wall. A stone door stands in the wall about halfway down the ramp pathway. The ramp is wet and slimy. If we can’t take 10 balance it’ll be a long slide down. Solomon can't take 10…
The stone door: No traps, no locks. Cluddox pull. A short hallway. We hear a voice…
This damp cavern contains a desk full of garbage. A painting leaning against the table facing a high backed leather chair sticky with blood. A small table filled with rotting meat on fancy silver.
The stench seems strongest to the west from a gigantic black fungus all over the wall. Almost looks like a humanoid outline. A seven sided box lies smashed at it’s ‘feet’ sitting in the chair is…
Horribly transformed, sits Aldern Foxglove. “Don’t know what I'm supposed to do… Cluddox! It's you!... grrr. GRRrrr!!! For now I shall have the reward of tasting your heart while it’s still warm.”
Solomon notes the way his voice changed was a complete shift in personality.
Camlo: Take a step behind Clud.
Cesar: turn invisible. Move in. The stink is overwhelming! Fort save? Fail. Cesar is sickened.
As he gets near the fungus he notes the shape is the same as his own shadow! He is overcome with the overpowering need to eat the fungus to get his shadow back!
Aldern: draws a war razor and advances on Cluddox. The stench washes over Clud and Camlo Our saves are bad. We are sickened.
Cluddox feels a wind just after cesar talks and sees the broken box move on its own.
Chano: move up to Camlo. Save? Good.
Cluddox: “Aldern, are we still friends?” “Aldern isn’t here right now.” Cluddox moves up. Aldern’s ready goes off. 1miss Clud 1miss
Sol: Move up. Save? Good. He sees in and casts Spiritual Weapon. Attacks Aldern. 1hit 9dmg
Aldern drops to his knees and his voice changes again. “Save me. Please. He’s coming back!”
Camlo: shoot Aldern. 1hit 4dmg. “No!”
Cluddox yells “No!”
Aldern: “He’ll be back for you!”
Us: something invisible is pawing at the fungus on the wall.
Chano: Move in. “How do we stop the hunter?” Aldern, “He’s in my head. I tried ignoring it.” “Found my wife, with the carpenter.”
Cluddox: “Cesar, we don’t have to kidney him. Cesar?”
Solomon: Check the mold. It’s just disappearing...
Cesar: Full tummy. And his mind comes back. He feels something moving inside. Fort. fail. Voral’s Phage. ...we’ll get to that.
Aldern: “The house will tell you things. I should never have listened. The said they would help rebuild it. The brothers of seven. The skinsaw cult. You’ve got to…” “Let's not worry about that.”
A third voice…
