Here, meaning Jamaica Plain, there be dragons
We meet to discuss some things, like what's going on. Then we get called by Mick because some friends of his are in trouble. We helped "save" them, only to get more footage on the internet. It turns out that Mick is apparently meeting tons of empowered humans and fancies himself the discoverer, and therefore, leader of Boston's empowered people.

Gordon’s daughter is always happy to tell him what she does every day. Today is not a normal day. She tells him with a story of one of the daycare teachers in another room. They got really mad at one of the kids and then there were a lot of bad noises. Then the kids were all told to stay in their rooms, and then some people came in and went into the other room. What he gathers is men in black suits came to Mrs. Smith’s room, then there was a lot of noise. Turns out she won’t be there tomorrow…
He calls the daycare…they won’t say a lot because it’s not his daughter’s teacher. They say that there was an incident, they are working with those parents, and they do not discuss personnel matters. And his daughter’s safety is of the utmost importance and they believe this to be an isolated incident.
They won’t tell him much, and the only other parent he knows in the room is the busybody parent, Dolores. She knows everyone.
Dolores: Mrs Smith lost it, and all the plants she had in the room tried to eat a kid. Billy’s ok, but everyone is shaken. I don’t know what we’re going to do with “these people”. I’m sure they arrested her for assault with a deadly plant…that’s got to be a crime, right?
What now? The incident at the Federal Reserve has proved to be kind of a tipping point…that was all over the news, and now all the talking heads are talking about super-powered people. The fat guy who won the marathon hasn’t been seen in public since. Did the government get him?
Darren’s car video is on national TV but attributed to the Boston Globe. He was almost somebody…
Someone who seems to be in the middle of all the talking heads is making a lot of appearances. Samuel Bradley is a so-called expert and an attorney for the ACLU based in Boston. He’s a partner with Bradley, Bradley, and Schumacher but also does pro-bono work for the ACLU. He is VERY pro-metahuman and very smooth on camera. More than Lenny smooth. He is able to make mince-meat of anyone hating on superhumans.
3 days after the robbery at the Fed, a pile of the cash that was taken is found back on the doorstep of the Federal Reserve. No one saw it happen, but it seemed to be during the middle of the night. Someone left a note that is eventually read on TV. Magazine cutout style, it reads, “You do not need to fear us, but you do need to acknowledge us.”
Gino came back a little bit ago. Over the past few days, other people in the homeless shelter have been coming to Gino’s spot…and no one normally sits in his chair. People sit next to him, he holds their hands, whispers into their ears, and at lunchtime or the next meal, they give Gino their brownie. Sounds like he’s started a little bit of a business. Some of the people who talk to Gino don’t come back after a couple days…apparently he’s giving them a path to get on their feet for the price of a brownie.
Lenny has been much darker on Twitter since his collateral damage thing…and he’s been mostly sober, to boot. The last thing he tweeted was his thing about going to MIT and not getting a T-shirt. This is getting pretty serious because it’s even beyond “badly hungover”…and he hasn’t insulted Darren in almost 36 hours.
We call up Lenny and tell him we’re getting together.
L: Yeah, I’ll be there. For you guys I’ll do it.
We all get together at O’$’s to chat. Lenny’s the last one to join us. The bartender says he’s been missing Lenny, who claims to be working on his album.
Lenny grabs a beer and joins us. Empathy rolls – Poor, Average, Mediocre. Gordon knows there’s something off with Lenny. He’s not his usual jovial self; instead we get Melancholy Lenny.
Gordon told us that a teacher at the daycare got hauled off. He tells us that she appeared to be superpowered and caused a plant to attack…none of which was in the presser.
We talk about what happened to Lenny and to her.
D: Did they want to talk to you about the airshow or the stairwell?
He twitches at that second mention but covers it.
About this time, Mick runs in.
M: Bruno’s in trouble.
Bruno is his friend, apparently.
D: What kind of trouble – cops?
M: (flustered) – No. Will you help.
Yeah, we’ll go along. He’s nervous, but not trying to conceal something.
We put our beers down (Lenny has barely touched his) and head out…we’re near Davis Square, the entertainment district.
We all pile into Mick’s car; he squeals the tires (which he never does) and takes off.
D: Talk to us, man. What are we getting into?
M: I don’t know. But Bruno and Terry (sp?) are in trouble.
He flies into a dark alley…Darren feels a power surge, and Owen feels something too. When we exit the alley, notice: Darren and Owen at 4, Gordon at 4…everyone but Lenny notices we’re not in Davis Square anymore. Looks like we’re in Jamaica Plain somehow.
D: You put a warp drive in this thing, Mick?
M: Uh, yeah? I guess you could say that.
D: Tell us later. Who are Bruno and Terry in trouble from?
There’s clearly a new power at work…a synergy between Machine Control and teleportation. Owen recognized the teleport signature, but *he* can’t go this far. Seems like we somehow teleported through the internet.
Around the corner is a mob scene. A crowd of about a dozen punks is harassing a man and a woman. The man and woman are powered.
Darren puts his hand on Lenny’s shoulder and asks if we’re going to need to calm down this crowd.
Looks like it’s a modern-day torches and pitchforks crowd.
Lenny gets out of the car and prepares to use Illusion, calls out “Get out of here!” Then he turns into a firebreathing dragon.
He has full sensory illusions, but if he touches them they’ll realize it’s false. He hopes to scare them off…he is not using collateral damage. No mass hysteria and mental consequences now.
He gets +7 on his illusion to try to frighten them off.
Crowd: Look, another one!
Lenny also uses his Demagogue stunt to affect the whole crowd at once.
L: Break it up! They’re no different from you! You don’t be lynching people! Go home and be happy! Now run for your lives or I’ll eat you!
The crowd goes silent, and their attention is no longer on the powered couple. Instead, their hate has turned to terror over the dragon. Looks like Godzilla is here. This small mob is now fleeing, and no longer cares about being courteous or careful as they run through the crowd.
Darren starts rolling footage as the taunting starts, and has Lenny chasing the mob. Not sure if this is anything we can use, but it might help make the case for superhumans. Bruno and Terry could definitely have taken care of this by laying waste to the mob, but they didn’t want to do that.
Of course this happened near the Farmer’s Market, so there are hundreds of witnessed.
D: Owen, can you catch one of them and see why they were hassling them?
Owen knows there may be people being hurt by the stampede.
Lenny didn’t make the whole farmer’s market run, just those who were hassling the couple. Everyone sees the illusion, but not everyone gets Intimidated.
Gordon attempts to go titanium but rolls ---- and can’t. He’ll go outside and try to stay incognito, but attempt to save anyone from being trampled. Owen also decides to protect people from the rampaging dragon. He uses his teleportation power to handle this. Darren catches footage of some little old lady falling down, then puffs of smoke, and she’s gone.
Terry does something similar – she does a parkour move off of several buildings and catches some little girl before she gets run over. Appears as though she Leaps Prodigiously.
Darren looks for the nearest thug, shouts, “Mick, don’t let my phone fall off your car.” Sets it down and gives chase. He runs one of them down and grabs him with Style (Off-balance). Dude is not super-powered.
Lenny makes his illusory dragon fly away and reappears in person.
Owen saves another person as does Gordon. Gordon makes a physique check and saves a veggie cart from crashing into a teenage girl.
Darren: Why were you guys harassing that couple? (Rapport +3).
Kid: Because they’re freaks!
His heart wasn’t really in what he said. Either someone put him up to it, or he was just wanting to be part of a mob.
K: We all got the text. Someone must have known the freaks were going to be here.
D: Someone is worried enough about superhumans to be causing trouble?
K: Aren’t you?
Seems like some kind of jealous kid; he’s not ready to die for this cause.
Darren says he’s not a cop, just a concerned citizen. This isn’t how you do this!
D: Who put you up to this?
K: The 4chan group said they’d be here.
Darren: What happens if you get some kind of abilty the next time it happens? You’d have to screw that up for yourself…
Darren kicks the kid out and returns. Gordon’s the last one there…everyone’s ok.
Mick says he’s trying to figure out who tried to organize this mob on 4chan…he knew Bruno and Terry were in trouble from the same 4chan post. Then, something about watching watchmen.
We all pile in to meet Bruno and Terry at another bar in Jamaica Plain.
Lenny renames an aspect from “Big in Japan” to “Go big or go home.” We talk about buying powers and change stunts, etc. Mike wants us to talk about swapping powers.
So, Bruno knows a place where we can go to talk. We have a pretty open conversation…Mick talks to them like he does us, which is quite conversational. He’s their Uber driver or something, and he’s known them about as long as us.
Bruno has energy blast, and he’s a bit of a hothead. Terry, his longtime girlfriend and now fiancé, got engaged at Lenny’s concert on Patriot Day. She keeps him in check. He admits that he’s enjoyed playing with his powers, and that if there hadn’t been a dragon he may have opened up on the crowd.
Darren: The dragon was a lot safer and less likely to get anyone in jail.
Bruno: Yeah, I know.
Terry shoots him a, “See? Told you so.” Look.
Terry is a yoga instructor who happens to have Super Agility. She’s got a Caregiver and Protector aspect. Turns out they were minding their own business going to the Farmer’s Market; they haven’t been too flashy with their powers so they’re unsure why anyone would have accused them of being superhuman.
Bruno shrugs, but Terry says she’s been careful.
Darren explains that you can tell when other powered people are around, but other people, himself included, know a lot better.
Mick chimes in – he’s going to go deep into that channel to see what’s going on.
They ask Gordon, “You one of us?”
G: I protect people, starting with myself and my family. And I’m not too happy about people using their powers wherever and whenever. I’m not down with people cataloguing those with powers.
B: Well, sometimes you just gotta…I mean, it’s eventually going to come down to it…
Terri jabs him with her elbow.
Note: Would Owen open up to these people? They did kind of watch him teleport…
Lenny wonders if they think he transforms or if it’s an illusion. They’ve seen visual effects twice, so for sure they know he can put on a light show.
Notice or Empathy…Darren and Gordon notice that Mick is really enthused about this meeting…he may be envisioning himself as the leader or something of a band of superheroes. And he sees lots more superpowered people than just us.
We do ask Mick if he’s run across Mrs. Smith, the preschool teacher. He says she’s a new one for him…
Best Empathy is +3 so we get nothing.
Darren: Did you get visited by the DHS-CDC-NASA group?
Mick: We need a name for us.
Gordon: Did you say us? Did you work for them?
Mick: I mean us, as in us this current group.
Gordon: What us?
(No, he was not visited.)
Mick: That little Raina thing was under the radar.
Mick will look around for any information about Mrs. Smith but depending who took her, not sure what evidence would be around. Lenny talks about where he was dragged to at MIT; Mick says he had class there back in the day.
Are we good? Gordon asks for a ride home…Mick thinks about something real quickly…and his face gets all blank for a bit, then tells us to get in. We leave…then Mick teleports again from a dark alley. We get back without incident and Mick teleports off again.
Before we disband for the night, Darren texts Mick: Don’t text and drive. Be careful and let us know if we find anything about the flash mob online.
He tells us to check twitter and look for #bostondragon. It’s trending. Some people want to turn the Red Sox into the Dragons. Other people are asking “what gives them the right, we were just minding our business…” “I’d rather have dragons than cops” “What kind of freaks are loose in our city?” “What happened to the right to assemble? These freaks busted us up and we were doing nothing wrong.”
In response to the Twitter noise, Darren quickly edits the video and posts it. It shows the mob taunting Bruno and Terry and then the dragon running to disperse the crowd. There is some footage of the dragon, but also a couple puffs of smoke showing where someone who was about to be trampled got saved. Terry is not on the footage because she came in later.
Darren posts it to the Globe as another exclusive. Then he texts a link to Lenny’s manager and suggests that he should practice the illusion.
Just as Darren’s ready to shut it down for the night, he gets an email from the DNA testing service. Thank you for the expedited order.
Blood was female (yes). Report notes that given the inclusion of blood preservatives, they cannot guarantee the 100% accuracy of the report. Heritage is Mexican-American (grandparents?)…50% Mexican, 30% English, 20% Scandinavian. One side clearly came from Mexico; the other half is New England. Black hair, brown eyes, olive skin, and signs of early muscle atrophy. Maternal lineage is the Mexican side. Whoever’s blood this was probably hasn’t moved much lately.
